7 ways to study that are proven to be effective from a scientific point of view①(Eng.ver)
While teaching students in a private school, I come to realize that many students ask me not how to figure out problems they are tackling with, but how to study. I think most of you might be unsure about what the most effective way to study is and ultimately, rely on other people’s way to study that they think is effective by themselves. Let me make a conclusion in advance. There are certainly many effective ways to study that are proven to be appropriate from a scientific point of view. I hope you will learn several techniques to study and take advantage of them.
①Practice to remember.
There is no exaggeration to say that studying equals reminding. According to the forgetting curve from Ebbinghaus, people will forget 42% of what they learned after 20 minuets and 74% of that after a day. So, it is my recommendation that you try to remember what you learned in your mind without looking at textbooks when forgetting it. Trying harder to remember makes your ability to memorize enhanced after confirmation. If putting this idea into your studying, you’d better not recap what you learned through just reading, but through solving mini tests(output practices). A study showed that students who went over what they learned just by reading got higher scores on vocabulary tests than students who did that by doing mini tests. Therefore, studying that includes practice to remember is better. Try to use this technique!!
